TEST DRIVE UNLIMITED 2 360 PREVIEW |
|
| |
Atari and
Eden are working together to bring you Test
Drive Unlimited 2 late 2010. For those who are
new to the series, it is a huge open-ended
racing game that heavily focuses on online
competition set in one of Hawaii's great
attractions, O'ahu. Test Drive Unlimited 2, will run along
the same attitude as the original, but the
setting will be in the Mediterranean island of
Ibiza. This time the game is filled more than
just race showdowns. The upcoming sequel for the
Xbox 360 is integrating a more team-oriented
atmosphere like the new feature called
"follow-the-leader". In this mode, only the
leader has the direction for the ensuing check
points and must communicate with other fellow
players to ensure the pack crosses the finish
line. In the age of Facebook and Tweeter, Test
Drive 2 is expanding its representation of
social networking by having the ability to
invite friends into your "home" and use emote
animation to socialize. In addition, you can now
form a club (think clan) and work together to
boost your reputation online.
The basic aim of gameplay is realistic driving
and while that remains to be the general
objective, there is little disregard to
vehicular destruction. It's nice to know you
could hit a tree, run into walls, or fall off
the cliff, yet your car stays relatively intact
with minor dents and scratches. However, there
is rumor the developer may change this mechanic
to include the use of money to fix cosmetic
wounds. Another interesting feature in TD
Unlimited 2 is the ability to drift and skid;
you can now go wild and you'll earn money for
showing off your skills as long as you don't
hit anything. Test Drive Unlimited 2 has a new
reward system. You receive reward for wandering
off the beaten path and exploring every inch of
the 380-sq km landmark. There is the treasure
hunt aspect where you can salvage car wrecks and
build your own car that won't be available to a
dealer anywhere. Though the main aspect of
presentation is to tease you with accurate
replication of the most coveted cars in the
world, the latest visual treat gives you buying
power to decorate and install furniture to dress
up your garage with personality. Developer Eden
has included a day-night cycle so that you can
enjoy the soothing shine of the sky as the sun
glisten from the horizon. The cycle takes
two-and-a-half hours, giving you different
gradients of light each time you
play.
The weather can change frequently, from a
typical sunny day along the beach line to a
challenging thunderstorm in the backcountry
side. These changes will have an effect on road
conditions as well as pickup dirt on your car.
The developer has also painted a more polished
landscape; for instance, you'll now be able to
see the coral reefs beneath the sea that exists
on Ibiza. You can expect several hundreds of
high-end car making its way to Test Drive
Unlimited 2, about 208 will be collectables. Out
of that collection, you will be able to jump
into 4x4 vehicle to handle, which gives you
freedom to drive onto rough terrain, especially
when you're "treasure hunting" for wreck cars.
You'll definitely need space to house your car
set. Fortunately, there are 100 different homes
you can acquire and many have breathtaking
vistas or even a yacht. It seems that Test Drive
Unlimited 2 has plenty to offer in its upcoming
release. Whether or not these offerings are just
for excitement, they remain to be judged in our
final review. Atari is slated to ship the game
to store January 2011. In the meantime, check
out the demo at Xbox Live. |
