SPIDERMAN: SHATTERED DIMENSIONS XBOX 360 PREVIEW |
|
| |
In
Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions, Activision
introduces our web-slinging superhero to a new
stage of disposition - one that involves a
mystical artifact called the Tablet of Order and
Chaos. On the outside, the tablet looks like any
other ordinary relic but upon closer inspection,
its purpose is to keep reality in balance. As
luck would have it, the tablet has been broken
into four pieces; it happened during a robbery,
in which Spiderman was pursuing the perpetrator.
Obviously, this is a "time-sensitive" issue and
the breakage of the tablet is creating raptures
in the very fabric of our universe. Each of the
four fragments contains a spell and it
supercharges the power of the person who owns
one of these. Spiderman needs to collect these
fragments immediately! However, this is not
going to be an easy job as every single one of
the fragments have fallen into the wrong hands.
Shattered Dimensions mainly translates to four
scattered pieces of the tablet opening four
overlapping alternate universes. Spiderman could
not harvest all the pieces alone. Fortunately,
he has three other "heroic personas" of himself
in their respective universe to assist in
bringing reality back to normal. Basically, what
you have is four very disparate versions of
Spiderman in this game.
You'll find that each version has a unique touch
in design and personality. One of the characters
you'll be using is the Spiderman Noir, which
offers a stark contrast to the Amazing Spiderman
we have come to know. The gameplay, on the other
hand, looks to be solid, utilizing same
mechanics in previous games and includes new
techniques that are specific to the Spiderman
you selected. The combat style looks to remain
very acrobatic and flashy, with a mix of stealth
and camera shifting a la Punch-Out. In the
animation department, the action looks equally
impressive with nice special effects to
executing moves such as quick takedowns and
bullet-dodging artistry. The graphics can be
described the same way - sharp with tons of
enhancements that look like right out of a
modern comic panel. The game makes smart use of
outlines and lightings technology as you'll
notice when Spiderman moves in and out of shade.
Overall, Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions makes an
excellent first impression. We had thought
Spiderman couldn't get more interesting but who
knew we would get four Spiderman in one disc,
each in their distinct universe? Needless to
say, the game is on the right path to deliver
the kind of close-quarter style of combat that
we come to expect for the franchise. Spiderman:
Shattered Dimensions is expected to arrive on September 7, 2010. |
