NHL 2K9 XBOX
360 PREVIEW |
|
| |
Nearing its
completion, 2K Sports gave us a chance to get
into the ice rink and brush up on their upcoming
NHL 2K9 for the Xbox 360. And so far, we have
enjoyed many of its hockey action where there
have been quite of improvements to the controls.
One thing we have noticed is that the scoring is
a little easier this time around, which is going
to be good for casual players who want to get
into this side of sport. There is no dreary
paddling like before in which you’re fighting to
land one or two goals per game. This time, it’s
a high-scoring match with lots of loose puck and
monster checking into the hard glass! There is
still some stiffness in the wrist shot area; you
might have to tap the button a few more to make
that goal.
Skating around the frozen arena might take some
getting used to as players don’t often control
the slipping mechanism on the ice; but it’s good
that the pace of the game is a little slower,
which give you a sense of “engine break” that
prevents you from drifting too far out.
Maneuvering the puck from left to right and back
again is relatively smooth; however, making a
sharp, semi-circle turns is a bit rough on the
edges. The graphics are superb as usual, and
that’s one of the key trademarks of 2K Sports in
all of their games. From the demo, there isn’t
much music going on but we experienced some
heavy contacts thanks to the “force feedback” in
our controllers. Thus far, we are looking at a
hockey game to deliver not only some exciting
NHL action but also a great simulation of the
sport. The game comes out in 09/08/2008. |
