MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL 2K10 XBOX 360 PREVIEW |
|
| |
2K Sports is
working on the next installment in the MLB
series, tagging it with 2K10 in the title. While
the developers are not completely overhauling
the entire MLB engine, players can expect some
major tweaking of preexisting features based on
the feedback they received from both gamers and
critics alike. In addition, they are making it a
bit more immersive by introducing the new "My
Player" mode. It's an exciting new feature that
lets you design your own character and take him
from Double-A ball up to the Majors and
eventually to the Major League Baseball Hall of
Fame. What's more is that you will have a chance
to earn extra skill points by performing a
number of clutch moments, which are specific
scenarios designed to put you in the hot seat.
An example of this would be a situation like
being down in the bottom of the 9th, two outs,
with a runner on first that you have to get to
home plate. Besides pulling off these big
"clutches", you'll be given a series of goals
that you need to accomplish, which would serve
as markers for where you stand in your career
and how far you are to making that trip to the
hall of fame.
One of the great aspects of "My Player" mode is
that there is a lot of realistic management
involved. When you create a character, you are
given a primary and secondary position to choose
from. Let's say you want to be a first baseman
in the Cardinals, well you're going to find
yourself being blocked by Pujols because he
already owns this position. So the only way, you
could remain in the club is to give your
secondary position a try. Graphically, the game
is getting tons of new fielding animations this
year. The developers have indicated they have
spent tremendous amount of time adding in
different types of gathers, grabs, and catches
while running on the field. You'll also get to
see a whole new set of cool infield animations
such as when you start holding the button for the base you want
to go to and making the
throw. One of the things you can look forward to
in MLB 2K10 is the "full ability" to edit your
players such as their stances and windups. You
can even give any player signature moves, which
is going to be available in both Franchise mode
and in several other single-player components.
With all these new layers of visual niceties, we
just might have a great baseball season ahead of
us. We can't wait when it comes out for the Xbox
360! |
