BLUR XBOX 360 PREVIEW |
|
| |
Activision
is no slouch when it comes to the racing scene.
This April, the company who produced some of the
best movie-to-game releases, such as Monsters
vs. Aliens and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, is
revving up its engine to give you Blur for the
Xbox 360. Blur is an arcade racer that features
an armory of power-ups like huge bursts of
energy, defensive shields, nitro speed boosts,
and landmines to beat your rivals across the
finish line. The team that is developing behind
this title is Bizarre Creations. Surprised? You
should be as they are the same folks responsible
for the long-running Project Gotham Racing
series. With Bizarre Creations at the helm,
players can expect very highly detailed car
designs. The action on the screen looks to be a
mixture between the realistic physics of
Midnight Club and the gameplay of Burnout
Revenge.
The main core of Blur is the power-up system,
and this is not like your typical Mario Kart
style of setup. In fact, the power-up items are
just one more component you can utilize in your
race strategy. The real purpose of power-ups is
not to drive with destruction derby in mind, but
to have the edge on the contest. Also, you
cannot rely on power-ups alone; you still need
to apply basic driving skills to cross the
finish line. Multiplayer racing looks to be the
best part of Blur's gamplay. It's going to
include a four-player split-screen, which should
give fans, who can’t afford subscription to XBL,
a chance to enjoy some friendly competition.
With the ability to have 20 cars running
simultaneously online, and not to mention
power-ups all over the track, the competition is
just going to be blistering chaotic! It looks
like Activision leads the production of driving
games being released this year. Blur will
certainly give other arcade racers a run for its
money. |
