Wolfenstein, Activision’s highly anticipated historic FPS, is being made exclusively for the Xbox 360. While its main attraction revolves around history, the game is digging more into the science fiction aspects with the addition of supernatural. The storyline is a bit hazy at this point, but from what information we have gathered tells us that the Nazi is trying to unlock the power of an ancient artifact known as the Black Sun. Your primary mission here is to stop this group and its leader Hitler from obtaining such very old relic. Of course, this artifact can be used to your advantage where you can harness it to open portals to parallel universe. It is known as the Veil, when you jump into an alternate world. What’s special about it is that it lets you rediscover objects you may have otherwise missed the first time you came in contact.
Another advantage of the Veil is you can flank unsuspecting guards or enter in bullet time to scour for ammunition from a heavily fortified compound, while dodging slow-moving gun shells. Graphically, the game takes most of its inspiration from Return to Castle Wolfenstein, which is nice because it stays true to its classic roots; but texture-wise, you’ve got next-gen written all over it! From what we have gathered, the game is going to be running on the extreme version of Quake 4/Doom 3 engine. So for those who are familiar with this type of mechanics will feel right at home with this one. So far no word yet on the multiplayer details but the developer confirms that along with the unlockables you’ll also receive weapons upgrades. Unlockables include occult items, gold bars, as well as ability to buy veil powers, increase capacity of ammo on guns, and more! The game is due out August 18, 2009.
